I have tried more than once to just sit down and post, but I have lost the drive. We are just getting ready to travel. Let’s talk about that.
Shipping to Brazil is not cheap, but I think I found the right company. Bunch a dudes in the Jebel Ali free zone. The price seems appropriate. Which is what I was looking for. I knew it was not going to be cheap, but this is the best price so far. Looks like a good value.
We fly to Istanbul for 4 days. I have reservations at the W. I paid the price for this but I am getting membership points for whatever that is worth. But the location is what is why it rocks. I can walk to an outdoor market, I am near the water. I am on the “European” side of the straight. My landlord here at South Ridge is from the city and he sent me a great email of where to go and what to do. I might get to meet his mom which would be cool. We will see.
Then off to Paris. I land and will meet up with the Might Arnaud. My favorite person in all of Europe. I can’t say enough about him. We have access to Emmanuelle’s parents house, (which is awesome) so we have a place to sleep. I hope to stay a few days in the city at least and then take a train down south to see the city in Cabanac. I am playing it by ear. Our last night will be back in Paris. We fly out of the “other” airport to Salvador through Lisbon. I want to stay close to that so we are on time.
Then I spend 40 days in Brazil. Nice. I hope to see more than just the north. I will visit Recife because that where an Embassy is, and I will become familiar with that place. If I go with the this cargo shipper I found, it will all be delivered to Santos Port which is near both Sao Paulo and Rio down south. I have heard both the good and bad about both cities. Viviane wants to see the Amazon. I am not sure what that entails but why would I not want to see that. Go fishing and catch a 80 lb catfish.
The weather here in Dubai sucks. Totally dusty skies and then a fog storm moves through. Basically the sky is mud. That was yesterday. The humidity is up. The temperatures are up. The job is starting to drive me nuts. You work twice as hard and half gets done. There are things that happen in this part of the world that are so frustrating. Anyway, enough of that. I don’t want to go off on a negative rant.
I get this Sunday off. It is Lailat al Miraj.

Check it out.
I know the Stetson is going on right now. I missed this years and last years. Can’t tell you how much that hurts. It is a great event that makes me proud to be my father’s son. I hope the 4 Marines are being taken care of. I always found an obligation to give them a welcoming first impression of the event. Walk them in the cabin and treat them like family. Hand them a glass liter and invite them to a tall cold one. That usually works. Once they realize they are celebrities and are guests of honor at a party drunk men they relax. They want to know where the girls are of course, but the answer is always the same, we left them at home.

Weather at home is not as bad, but close. Humidity is up and 100+. Beach is nice, which is where I am.
Luv ya bro - see you in roughly 74 days.
don't forget to send you arrival info so that someone can pick you up!
Mom finally cried that you are really heading home. It has been a great ride to Dubai but it is done. I went to a dodger game last night and although it was not good Dodger baseball, it was wonderful to be there. I sent the prayer up from there saying you and Viviane will be back soon!
the travel plans are awesome. Mom
"What a long strange trip it's been"
We are all very proud of you Bill for sticking it out across the world. Enjoy your remaining time as you will soon be gone. Please take Pics in France of the family pad. Have fun in S. America and let the family know we are thinking of her here in N. America. Soon enough Bill we will be fishing together, maybe Parker will bait your hook. Say hello to Vivi !!!
Wow,
Just read most of your entire post. A friend turned me onto it. Sounds like you've had a wild ride. Can't wait to talk to you when you get back. As for me, I now have 2 kids (5 and 3) and am still living in Pasadena. While you've been gone, i've climbed half dome in yosemite and made a few batches of chili. Can you guess who I am? In all your travels, have you seen anything as amazing as the "three car triple jig?"
Just thinking that a final post of totals: Days in Dubai, $ spent, things missed the most, things you will/won't miss, etc. Might be a good way to wrap it up.
Enjoy your final few days, and toast your departure!!!
good job, bill. i'm glad you did this and thanks for taking us all along on your adventure.
see you back on this side of the world.
