Last stop before Brazil
I have been away for a while. I have not posted in a good two weeks I would guess. Forgive me.
My mom told me over a month ago that the blog “did its job” and everyone kept on top of my life and times. Well that has changed now.
Istanbul was cool and educational, but it was a huge stop over for a trip from Dubai to Salvador, Brazil through Paris.
I had lunch with Viviane 6 miles south of the Black Sea and then 48 hour later we had lunch about half a mile from the Effile Tower.
A trip to Cabanac was just too much. We are tired and we did not get up in the AM for the first few days to see the city. Also this is a group effort, it is not all just about me. Viviane gets a say in this, and we are in Paris.
This weekend I will spend with Arnaud and soon to be Dr. Corinne in the eastern part of France and see a WWI battle field and hang out. I want to take the TGV for both the pleasure of it and to show Viviane some good French technical knowhow.
I need to give Viviane a chance to use the web.
I will post some pictures soon.

Lose of love for the Blog
I have tried more than once to just sit down and post, but I have lost the drive. We are just getting ready to travel. Let’s talk about that.
Shipping to Brazil is not cheap, but I think I found the right company. Bunch a dudes in the Jebel Ali free zone. The price seems appropriate. Which is what I was looking for. I knew it was not going to be cheap, but this is the best price so far. Looks like a good value.
We fly to Istanbul for 4 days. I have reservations at the W. I paid the price for this but I am getting membership points for whatever that is worth. But the location is what is why it rocks. I can walk to an outdoor market, I am near the water. I am on the “European” side of the straight. My landlord here at South Ridge is from the city and he sent me a great email of where to go and what to do. I might get to meet his mom which would be cool. We will see.
Then off to Paris. I land and will meet up with the Might Arnaud. My favorite person in all of Europe. I can’t say enough about him. We have access to Emmanuelle’s parents house, (which is awesome) so we have a place to sleep. I hope to stay a few days in the city at least and then take a train down south to see the city in Cabanac. I am playing it by ear. Our last night will be back in Paris. We fly out of the “other” airport to Salvador through Lisbon. I want to stay close to that so we are on time.
Then I spend 40 days in Brazil. Nice. I hope to see more than just the north. I will visit Recife because that where an Embassy is, and I will become familiar with that place. If I go with the this cargo shipper I found, it will all be delivered to Santos Port which is near both Sao Paulo and Rio down south. I have heard both the good and bad about both cities. Viviane wants to see the Amazon. I am not sure what that entails but why would I not want to see that. Go fishing and catch a 80 lb catfish.
The weather here in Dubai sucks. Totally dusty skies and then a fog storm moves through. Basically the sky is mud. That was yesterday. The humidity is up. The temperatures are up. The job is starting to drive me nuts. You work twice as hard and half gets done. There are things that happen in this part of the world that are so frustrating. Anyway, enough of that. I don’t want to go off on a negative rant.
I get this Sunday off. It is Lailat al Miraj.

Check it out.
I know the Stetson is going on right now. I missed this years and last years. Can’t tell you how much that hurts. It is a great event that makes me proud to be my father’s son. I hope the 4 Marines are being taken care of. I always found an obligation to give them a welcoming first impression of the event. Walk them in the cabin and treat them like family. Hand them a glass liter and invite them to a tall cold one. That usually works. Once they realize they are celebrities and are guests of honor at a party drunk men they relax. They want to know where the girls are of course, but the answer is always the same, we left them at home.

Friday Buffet, 24th floor, Dusit Thai Hotel
Viviane and I have decided to hit as many Friday buffets as we can before we leave. We both were turned on way late to the awesomeness that is the Dubai Friday Buffet. The attached video is me (again) talking too much as my crepe flambĂ© is being flambĂ©ed. The best part is of course that Mohammed Ali serves me ice cream. After I saw the video later I finally heard what Nanda reports to be his country of origin. I know it as Burma. My bad. (Don’t worry Dad / Aunt Susan, I paid attention and I now know how to make the post baked crepe even more kickass.)

Dinner at Thiptara
Thai Food. I give it a thumbs up. Viviane had a prawn salad and I had scallops in a spicy red curry with pineapples and a side of sticky rice. They served me 8 scallops that were pretty big. I was happy with that. We had a mix sampler plate to start and all the deep fried stuff was really light, crisp and not greasy. Only criticism is that again my white skin has to ask for chop sticks. As you can see, the view is outrageous. The Dubai Fountain is pretty cool. We were right on the lake. Dubai Mall is in the background, Burj Dubai to the left.
