I am aware that there is a small circle of people who drop by the blog and give it a look for something new and see what is different. I have gone a good week or more without sitting down and writing something. This weekend was a bye week for the Sun Devils and the Gators hosted the Citadel, which is an awesome institution but it is not necessarily know for the team they field on the gridiron. I decided earlier in the week to save everyone from my NCAA football post of nothingness.
The weather is much better. The wind is blowing and it feels really good. I would love to stand under a tree and smell nature but that is not going to happen until I fly home. I sat in a park for 45 minutes in Sharjah over the weekend and it was such a pleasure. The simple things are so clear when you don’t have them. I sat in shade with a dear friend and watched children play. It made me happy. Now if the kids were with their Filipino nanny, she wore jeans and a T shirt, but if they were locals, well, she was in black from head to toe you could maybe see her eyes.
While in Sharjah, I went shopping at what is called the Central Souk and I was buying some Christmas gifts. It is always odd to stand side by side with a woman who is completely covered with black fabric. Gloves, full gown, full black veil, etc. It is just odd. I mean she does not speak; she just pulls out a wallet and pays. She has money that is not an issue. She is just a mystery rapped in enigma. But she is not inside in an analogy. Sorry, that was a sarcastic metaphor meant to exaggerate my political elegance and alliances. (And that was a sentence meant to use as many silly words as I could.)
It is the week of Thanksgiving. What…? Anyway, that is not even on the radar over here. The Hill International yearend company party is on Thanksgiving. It ends at 1 AM so it should be a rager. Then over the weekend is the Sevens. The Sevens is a Rugby tournament is a special stadium here in Dubai. They serve beer and there is live music and men play physical sports. The sun is out so women like to show their skin. Thank the Lord. I just want to be part of a society for 8 hours that is not afraid to celebrate while mildly inebriated. I have tickets for both days; Viviane will be with me for the finals on Saturday. So, big weekend coming.

I am starting to realize that soon I will be on a plane to Lisbon, Portugal. I will be there 5 nights and 4 days. I will take photos and make movies. I will eat pork and drink in public. Hell I might even smoke and use vulgarity speaking to women . I am brushing up on my Portuguese. I land in LA on the 14th of December. I really need to see the family. I miss everyone. You too Em.

Kinda like an "idiot wrapped in a moron."
20 more days until you land in LA. I am counting. I am so happy about your going to Lisbon also. What an adventure and maybe a good transtion from Dubai culture to European to American. Love your shopping story.
I don't get anonymous remark. It is hard getting old! But anonymous knows how much your family loves and misses you. Great photos!!!!

Sorry everyone. This Cheryl. I wrote the first comment. I hit the wrong button and off it went anonymously. I am not saying Bill is "an idiot wrapped in a moron" It was a comical example of the use of words that I heard on TV that Bill would enjoy. As in his blog.
"She is just a mystery rapped in enigma. But she is not inside in an analogy."
No harm intended.

Yes, I am probably the only person happy you took a football hiatus. I really wish you would cause some scandal in Dubai!! Just kidding. I think I may be the only non family member that visits your blog on a weekly basis.. I keep Jimmy posted of all your family issues posted on the blog.. He He!
Hope you have a fun trip in Portugal.

Hey Cuz! Don't know if you heard but the Ginns are joining forces with the Morans for Thanksgiving--total circus I'm sure. You will be missed for this historical event!
I'm almost a full blown police officer--today I got to shoot some pretty bad ass guns. Ironic because I have the complete opposite lifestyle as the women you encounter everyday. I am so grateful for my experiences!
Hope you are doing well, Dec. 14 will be here before you know it.
Love,
Cuz Ali
P.S. One of my academy mates is a former ASU football player--don't know if I mentioned that before.
