International lesson on Election Day

Something just happened to me that changed my whole day. I had a bad day by the way so it was a really good thing.

Viviane called me and she needed me to bring her something at work. So I got in my car and raced over to the Souk Al Bahar. I parked and got out of my car and this woman walked up to me.

“Excuse me. Do you know where the restaurant [blah blah blah] is?” I asked her if it was in the Souk Al Bahar and she said yes so I said it is right this way. She turned and called her friends to follow.
“Sorry” she said. “I have had a few drinks we are 8 drunk black women.” … OK.

Again, this is a true story and it happened 30 minutes ago.

So I walking with her and I turned around and saw 7 other women. I asked what the celebration is and she said “Barak Obama won the election.” Wow. OK. So we start to talk and it got really interesting.

“I have had a few drinks I am sorry.” “That’s cool; I have had a few too, no worries.”

So as we walked she asked me if I was happy about it and said well… and she said did you vote and I said no, and I was embarrassed about it. She asked “So you did not go to the embassy and vote,” I said no you need to get an absentee ballot and turn it in… etc. She did not know how that worked. (By the way, these girls were not Americans. They were Kenyan or from another English speaking African nation. They did not sound British.) The one who had the guts to approach me as a group of lost drunk ladies was hot and she was cool. Hair, legs, confidence, etc… and a hot dress.

So she said are you happy, who would have you have voted for. I said McCain and then she said:

”Me too! Don’t tell my friends, they would kill me. I am not into this abortion thing. My friends would kill me so tonight I will pretend.”

Wow. This came out of nowhere. I mean I was helping a hot drunk lady in a smokin’ hot dress, with just awesome hair etc. and all her friends who were trailing in a pack. And she was the solo Conservative and was in charge of getting them to this expensive restaurant on time. When we walked into the Souk I found a security guard and handed her over to him, I needed to see Vivi and was in a hurry.

Anyway, I feel really better now.

Everyone in the states needs to know that there is a vibe out there. So many people who have no interest in what is best for America are happy about the results of the election. Well just the presidential part. 95% of them don’t even know about the rest of the offices that are up for vote. There was a desire for change, because they want what is best for them. I still don’t really believe that the POTUS can change the lives of some many people outside the states. It is all very high level governmental stuff. But that is not the point; I think it is what the states are, as a symbol of the new world. And I respect the fact that a collection of smart beautiful and educated African women would be happy about Barack wining. I am at peace with that. But they don’t live in the states. His policies are of no matter. It is all image and he is a face on TV, the person who is the symbol of the ideal of freedom. I get it.

I am at peace with this. It is what it is. I will get up and go to work tomorrow. But what is great is that life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness is what is important for hot and confident beautiful Black African woman.
Did I mention life?

As far as the election results...you said it yourself in an earlier post "for those who get it, no explanation is necessary, for those who don't, no exlanation is possible"

The fact is the US (and the world) needed change and hope for the future. The perfect storm of war and economic collapse has taken its toll. Whether or not Obama is the right choice for change is up to each person to decide, and up to the new government to prove...but the collective US has spoken overwhelmingly.

I love black women too (and white, hispanic, Asian, tall, short, skinnie and fat ones too). No matter how much US citizes disagree disagree, I have heard all sides of the political spectrum agree that the US is the best country in the world in which to be a citizen.

Well, You know where I stand and how I feel. He is a face in the media that people associate with the word "change." Wow, word association what interesting concept. I find it so interesting, in a world where "change" is the formative word our ecnomic markets have experienced the largest percentage and point drop on history after and elcetion day. "Change Indeed"
