Eid Mubarak!

I am just glad Ramadan is over.
I don’t know if you can really appreciate this but some of the holidays in this country are based on a lunar calendar. And this is not an exaggeration, if it is a cloudy night in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the holiday might be pushed to the next day! It is not scientific, it is with the eye and it is traditional and specific people (men) actually make the decision. So I found out last night at about 8 PM that I was going to have today off. I thought I was going to work. It screwed everything up. So instead of a 4 day weekend, I get 2 days off, one on, and then the weekend. Classic.

It was on the radio. Its Eid! Let’s party. They stopped building buildings. The never stop building buildings. The entire private sector is off. Right now out my window no one is working. I am glad for them; I just wish I could have had 4 days in a row. Ya know, geez.

Anyway, that is life in an Islamic country. No doubt about it. I have liberal freedoms here that is for sure, but this is no democracy. Holiday plans are kind of tricky to say the least.

Today I wore shorts and drank coffee in public! It was like being naked. The simple things in life. If I had actually fasted from sun up to sundown for 30 days, there is no questions this would be my favorite holiday. Government employees got 4 days off and then into the weekend. Nice.

Yo Nick. I bought Magnetic and I have yet to hear it all the way through. I am listening to it now. Your analysis was well received but as of right now I don’t really disagree with the mix of albums you hear in it, but I would say it is Kill um All v2.0 (special Rick Rubin edition) Lots of notes pushed together and played really fast. Heavy crunching but just so much better produced than 25 years ago. James is savage but with a better range. Kirk has been set free again to scramble out a few blasts. Always a good thing. Cover art is groovy.

I think it is wonderful you were so respectful to the holiday. i wonder what insights the regular Muslim received from it all.
