Hello, it has been a while

Everything is fine. I am just doing my thing. I know that at home the family is joyfully distracted with wonderful things holding their attention. And the distractions all have first, middle, and last names. I am also distracted. I have heard some stories already about all of them. Like the twins came out wearing ski boots and Parker farts like Blazing Saddles. I love it.
It is getting close to Ramadan for me so that is the world I live in. That means shorter work hours and an even slower government response to request. Hiring people here in the UAE is like a puzzle. First you actually have to find someone qualified, and then they actually want to be paid a realistic salary, and then they have to be able to leave their current employer in the UAE. (That is a whole other post just to explain the hurdles in changing jobs in this country.) They start 45 days later at the earliest. Anyway, I don’t want to talk about my job on this post, but I think I might drop even a few more pounds over September as I fast during the day. Or I might gain as my body goes into starvation mode as I eat late in the day and I store it all into fat.
I am making friends. One of them is hot. I will not go into detail, some things I get to relish in all by myself. But rest assured she is a classic Bill find. Totally in a vulnerable place, looking to make “friends” and is drop dead smokin’ hot. She is a waitress at a sushi bar and is from Brazil. Those two things alone would sell me on a blind date, but I have seen this person up close and personal. It is all good. Her eyes dilate when she buys chocolate. But that is pretty standard for most ladies. I will keep the rest to myself.
In the back ground as I type this post I am watching men’s ping pong. I did not realize how much of a power game the men play, and how much of a finesse game the women play. I want to watch mixed doubles now; I would appreciate the style contrast more than ever.
Thanks to the fact that I live in AZ for 13 years I am able to deal with this heat. I have heard that this has been a mild summer. Never the less, it is hot as a mofo out there. 110 with humidity over 50%. It is like living in Florida at its worst, except there are no bugs, no rain, no bikinis in the super markets, and no girlfriend.
I am going to switch cars in two weeks. I am looking at a Nissan Tida. It is a nightmare. But I don’t want to buy and I don’t want to pay over 850 US for a Honda every month. The one I drive now can’t turn for shit. I have to maneuver through parking lots every day. You parallel park here like in Bezerkley: do it right the first time and do it fast.
I just saw Tropical Thunder and it was awesome. Don’t bring the kids. But I recommend it on a few levels. I mean the thing starts off with you being offended with just outrageous sexism to set the precedence of the entire flick. Robert Downey Jr. and Jack Black both just rule. The total irony of the entire movie is the acting is really good. Robert honestly is just great. There is a NKOTB cameo near the end which just sealed it as an awesome flick. There were a few other big name surprises that just were awesome. There is a huge name actor in the movie that I had no idea was in the mix and he is awesome and just vulgar as hell. I mean just offensive.
I am looking at plans to fly home for December. I have decided to make a poll and ask for advice on how to fly home. Go east, or go west. I want to go to the Balkans, but it will be December in the Northern Hemisphere so I am not going to do that. Your advice and/or vote will be well received.
I had vertical blinds installed. It took less than two weeks. This little dude showed up and measured the windows and when they did come back they got them up in no time flat and I am happy with them. Now no one can watch me play Tiger Woods Golf on my PS2 naked. Sorry too much information.
I have been trying really hard to stay away from politics during the Olympics. I also must admit that I did not like feedback from people who disagreed with me when I posted things a few weeks back. I was like what the fuck, get your own blog. It was a real learning experience for me. I was not prepared to take any constructive criticism in the mood that I was in a few weeks ago. That was a hard time for me over here. So from that experience I learned a few things. One: if people don’t like what I post, they can stop reading my blog. And two: some people don’t like what I post. I am not interested in turning this page into a referendum on what I believe; I just am using this as a way to stay connected. I am using this page as a way to tell you where I am at. I want people to know what I am thinking. NOT because it is what I want you to think, only because that is what I am thinking. I am trying to stay connected with the people I love. Not preach doctrine. I am just one guy. And I have a free blog. Chill! I have a strong opinion on the US Presidential race and I live in an Islamic Dictatorship. I will express my mind. Get over it. I am just one guy on the web. I am not an authority; I just have a goofy blog. For example, I am laughing and just shocked that the Dems think they have a winning ticket. I found out who BHO picked a few hours ago for VP. D’oh!
Thanks for stopping by. I have a few more flicks on YouTube to keep the Dubai flavor fresh.

This is a shot of the Al Qasr hotel. I could not get closer without a room key. In front of me in the shot below the horizon is the lake. I am standing at a dock. Cha-Ching! (The Burj Al Arab is behind me, so this is to the left or closer to the Palm on a Map)

This is a shot of the inside of the Madinat Souk which is between the resorts off the cost of the Burj Al Arab. Free parking and the shops, as usual, are high end. But in this place the stuff is very cultural and artsy - fartsy. The souk itself is a maze built of air-condistioned walk ways by design. Durring the winter it can all open up and be and open air market. Pretty cool.

Bill,
Arnaud called 30 minutes ago! He has a friend in Dubai and he **might** visit - how cool would that be. I told him to catch up with you via the blog.
Write what you want. I remember when I had a parent call me and tell me how disappointed they were that I was hosting a birthday party for my son with an "T" rated Xbox games. I deleted the voicemail before I got to the end. I realized that she had the problem not me. I get a good chuckle whenever I see her and her socially repressed child. he he he ;-)!
Love you and let me know your arrival date back into Dubai so I can make my plane reservation too.

Thanks for the great post. I love the Madinet Souk and would be looking up the whole time shopping.

you and I are an example of how it can be because I think the Democrats do have a winning ticket and we love each other, respect each other and just say are not we lucky as Americans to have political opinions. to vote etc.

More pics coming of girls.

love you Mom "I like Ike"

Bill - I enjoyed your post (well I always do!) but nice to hear your voice especially today. Yes, the Olympics continue to hold my attention all the time too - I don't remember ever being so into it before. Hey - do you bring your lunch to work? Eat dinner at home more often than eat out? Have you been going back to that Aussie bar in your neighborhood? Glad to hear friends are being made, bro :) Miss you but SEE YOU SOON!!! Seriously....I can't wait! xoox sis kt p.s. I voted for Tokyo (because I know you've always wanted to go) but my second vote is Bangkok - I think you'd DIG it and it would be 1/8 the price of visiting Japan!

Hey Bill!

It's Lisa Nowell from Thanksgiving at Linda's. You know...the Nowells in the corner. ;)

Anyways, Cheryl and Linda told me about your blog and it's really fun to read. The Moran family is amazing, plus it's neat to see what life is like on the other side of the planet. Great Videos. Thanks for sharing.

Dave took a week's vacation just to make sure he didn't miss any olympic coverage. Now that's devotion. Is it just me, or is men's platform diving getting a little creepy to watch? Maybe it's the hand stands. Go USA.

Hello Bill,

Great last post. As a libertarian and Ron Paul fan, I disagree with you about as much as I agree (politicaly that is). This is your blog, say whatever the heck you want and don't worry about the idiots who have nothing better to do than argue with a blogger half-way across the world who is just trying to keep in touch with family and friends. Rant with pride Brother Bill.

As far as your stop on the way home, I highly recommend Bangkok. Go to the floating market, visit the Grand Palace, get the most amazing foot massage you have ever gotten, by far, for only 250 baht (about 9 bucks). Also, go vist Koh Sahn Road, an excellent place to meet backpackers and travelers from all over the world. Koh Sahn has a great English pub called Gilligans Travels or something, as well as tons of small shops to bargain hunt for all sorts of crap. You can get around Bangkok easily by using the Chao Praia river taxi, which costs like 15 Baht (about 50 cents) and has 15 or 16 stops I think througout the city. A truly amazing place, that really is the land of 1000 smiles (all the locals smile at you when you make eye contact, it was quite awesome).

On the dirtier side, definitely go see Patpong market at night, in the heart of Bangkok. Aside from the fake Gucci, Rolex, (fill in your name brand here), etc., the ping pong shows are something everyone should see at least once in their lives.

All of it is super cheap...my two cents on the poll is Bangkok.

Either way, have fun and you will be living life right. Safe travels to ya...

Mitch

Bill!! It has been a while since I've been able to check out your blog. Good to see your making a good go of it all.. friends? friends are always good...and you are definitely a great one to have. I'm sure your charming the pants off the ladies, even if it's figuratively :)...
I have some relatively sad news for you... Our dearest "real life" animae, firecracker, sushi goddess Chizuka has left Z for good. She is moving to the big apple with her soon to be husband. Monday was her last day so Jen and I went in for dinner, brought her a cake, some flowers and champagne.. It was truly the end of an era, very sad!
Thought you would want to know..
I can't wait to have sushi with you in December! We miss you every friday...still.
take care!
